“At every turn, President Obama strips away more of our liberties and spends more of our children’s money. It’s time for Republicans to start winning again.”
Mark's Family
I was born in New Jersey and have three siblings. Being raised in a middle-class blue-collar family, my work ethic was developed at a very early age. We didn't have a lot growing up but there was always food on the table and clothes on our back.
I have been married to my wife and best friend, Betsy, for 32 years. We have two beautiful daughters who have left the nest and ventured forth into adulthood, though we frequently reminisce and picture them as small children like most parents. In addition, we have been blessed with two grandsons that fill us with unimaginable joy. We've called this exceptional state of Vermont home for the past 35 years.
Tested Leadership
In 1980 I was hired as a police officer and spent 18 years as a sergeant. My career continues along this route as I was recently certified as an EMT. My past includes being a Volunteer Firefighter. With over 33 years as a civil servant my record for assisting others speaks for itself. I was drawn to police work because it allowed me to do something good for society. I like the idea of making a difference in people’s lives by protecting and serving my community.
During my career as a law enforcement officer, I attended the Vermont Police Academy, the New Hampshire Police Academy and the FBI National Academy. Much of the curriculum and specifically at the FBI Academy was advanced leadership training. This training combined with an almost indescribable career work experience has provided me the incredibly well-rounded foundation I need to be an invaluable member of Congress. I have been able to negotiate solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems with all walks of life in daunting situations. One should never be too confident or overly certain of themselves. Often the best ideas are found by simply by listening, even to views that are seemingly oppositional.
Why am I running?
I am a conservative running as a Republican but I do not always agree with the Washington DC Republicans. I believe in limited Government, less taxation and more freedom from the ever-growing government intrusion in our lives. We must get Our National Debt under control.
The road this country is currently on will not produce the legacy I want to leave my children and grandchildren. The United States needs integrity, common sense and hard work infused back into the decision making machine that affects so many, aligned with the priorities that best serve ALL Americans. The truth needs to be told and hard choices need to be made. I am ready to make them.
